Micro and other revisionists, do you not understand how we came about our claim to the southwest US?
Texas won its independence from Mexico in a war. Santa Anna imposed a new constitution and when Texans were refused their request to be bound by the freedoms of the old constitution they declared their independence, which was subsequently won in battle. After almost ten years as a Republic we joined the states.
The US offered Mexico $15,000,000 for the vast majority of the southwestern US - California, Utah, Nevada, most of Arizona and parts of Colorado and New Mexico. Mexico had a hissy fit and wanted Texas back so we kicked their butts. Mexico ceded the territory as a condition for ending the war, and we still paid them the $15,000,000. The rest was purchased in the Gadsden purchase.
We fought for it, Mexico gave it up, and then we paid for it anyway. They have no claim.

Can not buy land for your casino in Las Vegas for 15,000,000. Cheap price. Beads for LI, 15M for 1/3 continent. 3USD for gas. What goes round comes round.
