Iraq War is the Number One Issue jackreade 08/13/06
"The war in Iraq is the No. 1 issue in the country today. Americans are no longer willing to accept the human suffering or the financial toll of a war that has lasted for 3 ½ years with no end in sight.

The numbers speak for themselves. We've lost almost 2,600 Americans.
More than 19,000 have been wounded, 46 percent of them so badly they couldn't return to their units. Tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis have been killed in sectarian violence. The U.S. is spending $11 million every hour - $8 billion every month. Yet the administration refuses to budge from its open-ended, stay-the-course policy. I know it and the American people know it: We need to redeploy our troops to the periphery and refocus on the real war against terrorism. It's long past the time for us to change direction." Murtha

      >>>In fact, it has created MORE TERRORISTS!!!<<<

No, Jack, it hasn't created more terrorists. It just drew the terrorists all to one place, Iraq. Which was exactly the point of going into Iraq. As long as they are THERE fighting our soldiers, there are not HERE attacking our civillians.

Do you really think that people who weren't already pre-disposed to put on bomb-vests suddenly said "Bush is attacking Iraq, let's go there and blow ourselves up to help fight him"? That nice Muslims kids who had no animosity towards the USA suddenly became terorists because we took out SSaddam Hussein?

No, Jack. These guys were already terrorists, were already planning on fighting against the USA. Bush just made sure that the fighting is being done THERE rather than HERE. He painted a big bulls-eye on Iraq and said "You want to fight the USA? Fine, here I am, come and get me." And by making trips to Iraq and making Iraq the focus of international media and international politics, he has kept the terrorists eyes off the USA and on Iraq, much as a magician attracts your eye with one hand to draw your attention away from what he doesn't want you to concentrate on in his other hand. And so far, that plan has worked 100%. Attacks on US soil have dropped by 100% since 9/11/01.
