"The eastern world, it is exploding Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’ You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’ You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’ And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’
But you tell me Over and over and over again, my friend Ah, you don’t believe We’re on the eve of destruction.
Don’t you understand what I’m tryin’ to say Can’t you feel the fears I’m feelin’ today? If the button is pushed, there’s no runnin’ away There’ll be no one to save, with the world in a grave [Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy]
And you tell me Over and over and over again, my friend Ah, you don’t believe We’re on the eve of destruction.
Yeah, my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatin’ I’m sitting here just contemplatin’ I can’t twist the truth, it knows no regulation. Handful of senators don’t pass legislation And marches alone can’t bring integration When human respect is disintegratin’ This whole crazy world is just too frustratin’
And you tell me Over and over and over again, my friend Ah, you don’t believe We’re on the eve of destruction.
Think of all the hate there is in Red China Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama You may leave here for 4 days in space But when you return, it’s the same old place The poundin’ of the drums, the pride and disgrace You can bury your dead, but don’t leave a trace Hate your next-door neighbor, but don’t forget to say grace And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend You don’t believe We’re on the eve Of destruction Mm, no no, you don’t believe We’re on the eve of destruction.

First of all, what you call "jingoism" I call "patriotism". Its a semantic difference, but semantics are important in disagreements of ideology. It's sort of the difference between eating "dead unborn baby chickens and burned pig flesh" and eating "eggs and bacon". How you say it makes all the difference in the world.
Second, I don't think ANYONE is interested in my phone records. But they are free to check them out.
Third, I'm glad that SOMEONE has created a program to watch for key words and phrases used over the phone and internet. It's part of what keeps us safe and free to write songs like the one above that may disagree with US policies.
Fourth, do you know of ANYONE in the USA who has been jailed based on a phone conversation or e-mail? All that watching the phone lines does is give us a starting point to know who to be looking at to prevent terrorism. In and of itself, a phone conversation has never been used to jail anyone.
Fifth, I feel very free in the USA. My parents and grandparents came from places in Europe that were NOT free 60 years ago, so perhaps I have been given a stronger-than-average understanding and awareness of the difference between freedom and oppression. The USA is a place of freedom, not a place of oppression. Afghanistan under the Taliban, Iraq under Saddam Hussein, and Iran under the Ayatollah Khameni and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are places of oppression. I can understand why you might confuse the two, what with the USA being a place where people can say whatever they want and worship however they want without going to prison, whereas Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan are or were places where people are beheaded for not wearing the right size beard and tortured for any form of disagreement with the government. But you'll just have to take my word for it.
