      Clarification/Follow-up by ETWolverine on 04/05/06 1:03 pm:
Hate to tell you this Triumverate, but gerrymandering was not invented by Tom Delay. Furthermore, it is completely legal, and has been taken to a high art by the Democrats in years past. The original idea of gerrymandering goes back to the attempt to eliminate the right of blacks to vote in southern states by Dems. Gerrymandering happens to be legal in most states, as long as it is approved (either by the AG of the state or the state's highest court, depending on the rules in that state).

Furthermore, Delay actually weakened his own position with his gerrymandering. As a result, he only won his last re-election with 55% of the vote, as compared to the 60%+ prior to the redistricting. Yes, it strengthened his party's position in the state, but it weakened his own position.

So while gerrymandering might seem like dirty pool, it is considered by BOTH parties to be a legitimate and legal political practice. There's certainly nothing illegal about it.

Perhaps YOU should do some research before you accuse someone of doing something illegal.

      Elliot
