NeoCon Movement Imploding... Choux 11/19/05
Taking Right Wing "Journalists" with it.

""We experienced a similar political Tsunami in the U.K. when Thatcher’s Conservative party imploded amid scandal, nepotism and plain old incompetence. Those events and the resulting “sting” inflicted upon the British people have kept that party from power for three consecutive terms.

I’ve been back and forth to the USA for many years now and I always made time for Bill O’Reilly. I may not agree with most of his politics, but I enjoyed his sincerity and now and again found myself nodding. Besides, a man’s got to satiate that
Reptilian part of the brain one way or another, and that’s what Fox news is for, right?

Anyway, I’ve noticed since the onset of the war how old Bill has quickly deteriorated. Returning to his “No Spin Zone” over the past three years has been akin to visiting a distant relative in a nursing home who is suffering the onset of Alzheimer's. He has trouble recollecting important facts, and bursts into rants that make no logical sense. And just as with Alzheimer's, it’s really sad to watch an individual lose what little dignity they possessed.

The problem for Bill and many other “journalists,” is that he’s part of a Neocon movement that’s quite simply begun to implode. Individuals are already jockeying for position in the hope of surviving in the changing political landscape. However some – like Bill - are so deeply embedded in the Neocon mythos, there’s really nowhere for them to go and they’re scared.

For when you zealously advocate sending young men and women to their deaths in a misconceived war, it’s an all or nothing bet. And they have lost. Most Republicans know it, few will say it, and some like Bill O’Reilly will never, ever admit it. Why should he? If President Bush is incapable of admitting mistakes, why should his devoted followers?

Bill’s rants concerning San Francisco come from fear and frustration. He’s angry, but not really with the Bay. He’s angry because the whole Neocon house of cards is tumbling down and there’s not a damned thing he can do about it. They control both houses and it’s all going to hell. The usual methods of disinformation, Orwellian double talk (Clean Air Act/No Child Left Behind) and downright lies no longer work. This is a very frustrating time for Bill.

What is really getting Bill down above all else is the Bloggers. The Mainstream media is dying. More and more people are turning away from their TV’s and searching for the truth online. Ideas are being exchanged, people are becoming aware, and all the time Big Brother whines in the corner.

And as this phenomenon grows, people like Bill O’Reilly find themselves held accountable for their rantings. Let’s face it, it’s really annoying when someone reminds you of some stupid thing you said. Smart thing to do is to admit it, apologise and move on. But don’t accuse them of “smearing“ you, not when they’re smearing you with you own words. And Bill, whatever you do, don’t try to pass off your venom as a “satirical riff”.

Because as we say in Glasgow, “A kick in the balls, is a kick in the balls.” Don’t try to pass it off as a kiss, not when my balls are still ringing.

in this case the author incorrectly lumps in cable 24/7 news and commentary as main stream media. To a large extent they have taken alot of the market share from the networks but their problem is overkill. Fox can spend a full day on a police chase in LA ,or weeks on the Natalie Holloway disappearance .boring!!

OReilley secretly would like to replace Dan Rather at CBS . That will not happen.

      Chou,

      >>>GM lost, what, 9 Billion dollars in the last quarter, and are cutting how many jobs???<<<

There was a $1.6 billion consolidated net loss for the quarter ($3.8 billion loss for the year). But auto sales for that quarter were actually up by $1.3 billion, indicating that more people had money to spend on cars. Furthermore, overall sales in all segments was up by $2.3 billion, indicating that the public is spending more money... which indicates that they have more money to spend. The net loss by GM was due to operating costs indemic to GM, not due to poor economic conditions in the USA as a whole. The fact that sales were actually up is the best indicator that the economy is improving.

Economics and financial analysis are more than just looking at the numbers, its about finding out what the numbers really mean. That's what I do for a living, Chou. A net loss, even by a major company like GM, is NOT an economic indicator.

Lots of things can cause net losses... higher salaries and bonuses paid, purchases of non-operating assets, deliberate overstocking of inventory to GENERATE a tax loss (one of the oldest tricks in the book for hiding income). Or it could just be old-fashioned lack of efficiency withn the company. But none of those operating factors are an indicator of the economy. Only SALES can indicate that, and overall sales were up by $2.3 billion. That's the real indicator of economic conditions.

      Elliot
