Like it or not :) Guess what, there is still another world out there besides Katrina. Those poor Californians, cutting the wrong cables in LA, dog ear cropping bill failed, Huntington Beach and Santa Cruz battling for the right to be called Surf City. But more importantly, LSU and the Saints won, and the Cowboys defeated the Chargers as a nice closer to our brief San Diego vacation.

Oh yeah, a question...Friday in USA Today Jon Saraceno said the "NFL should have delayed games in wake of Katrina."

"A city lies in watery ruins. Bloated corpses float in contaminated floodwaters. Army tanks roll down streets. Police, fire and medical personnel tend to the sick, suffering and frightened. Thousands of evacuees across our nation fear the worst for missing family and friends.

Are you ready for some football?

The games must go on as scheduled ... right?

    No they don't..."

Should the NFL have delayed the games?

      Tom,

I read Saraceno's article the day I arrived in San Diego and it really ticked me off. I didn't care much for his "vivid images" on the sports page. I didn't appreciate his comparisons to 9/11 which was but a few days before the season kicked off - not two weeks later - not to mention the difference between a terrorist attack that virtually shut down the country and a localized natural disaster.

We had a trip scheduled to Florida 4 days after 9/11 - we needed it - and we went, and flew there. No regrets. We had this trip scheduled for almost 3 months, game tickets bought and non-refundable airfare purchased. After two weeks of nonstop Katrina it was a nice getaway - which we needed. Life goes on, and diversions are mecessary. Plus, San Diego did a bang-up job on the pre-game, and over $300,000 was raised for the Red Cross Katrina relief at the game.

Delay the games? What an idiot. Maybe he should have asked the Saints their opinion like David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune did.

      Steve-

I think the AlamoDome would be a practical venue for Saint home games. I'm guessing the city of San Antonio actually owns and maintains operations (via public funds, taxation) of the AlamoDome. I'd bet the Saint's ownership is currently crunching numbers in figuring the overhead costs, salaries, and move. Speaking of numbers, here in Vegas, the Saints were plus 200 on the money line. Nice pay-off for those risking the bet. Early on I put a small wager on the Cowboys to win more than eight games this season and I expect it to pay.

BTW, of course football is just entertainment so more importantly I want to mention that Las Vegas casino employees are doing major fund raising to help the needy in Louisiana and Mississippi. The corporation I work for, MGM/Mirage, lost a property in Biloxi called the "Beau Rivage." We will continue to pay those people their wages for three months. We are also tranfering them into job opportunties and opening at our resorts here in Vegas.

Per you comments in my rating: I was inactive for about six months from the boards. When I went back and read some of the threads, I quickly remembered why I'm not a passive individual. If you've been away for awhile I suggest you do the same. Also, speaking of time away from the boards, in about a week or so I will again be on another LOA, but this time for only a month and a half (returning in November).

if the boys don't win 8 then Parcells should be toast . His MO is get a team into the playoffs by year 3 ,to the Bowl by year 4 ;quit or attempt to quit by year 5 .

      Bobby,

I'd hate for the people of New Orleans to lose their team, but I'd love to go to San Antonio for a game in the fall :)

      Tom,

Unfortunately nobody can read Jerry Jones' mind, or Parcells for that matter, so who knows what might happen if we have a poor season - but I expect major improvements this year. I miss the old days when I knew my man Landry would be back every year.
