Trouble looming (or at our doorstep??) excon 08/31/05

    Hello experts:

    Bush, as you know, sucks.

However, the Dem's suck worse. When the NY Times blares the following in an op-ed editorial, you know we're in trouble:

    >>>Hillary Rodham Clinton is betting that there's no need to do anything rash now, like leading.<<<

Now I read that two thirds of Americans think creationism should be taught along side evolution in science class.....

The next world war is going to be between our theocracy and their theocracy. Me?? I'm leaving.

      ex,

Yes I have lost my mind, if you see it please return it to me. When they can prove the theory of evolution beyond a reasonable doubt I'll shut up about creationism. Until then, we do children a disservice in teaching evolution as unquestionable fact. Teaching is not indoctrination, and that's where I have problems with both evolution and Planned Parenthood's idea of sex education. Both bypass parental values in favor of an indoctrination with their agenda.

      Hello again, itsdb:

And, you don't see the teaching of creationism as bypassing my values in favor of an indoctrination of YOUR agenda. Sorry, Dude. But, I do.

If you're looking for science to teach stuff only known beyond a reasonable doubt, then there's nothing to teach. Frankly, in the general scheme of things, we don't know much and are still learning - and there is much to be learned. It's a great age to be alive - so much is being revealed. We don't stop teaching what we know, because we know there's more to learn.

And it IS being revealed because good science created good scientists. Those scientists weren’t taught religious doctrine and told to figure out the real stuff.

And, we don't, or we at least should not, teach religious doctrine as science, unless, I say again, I get to choose the religious doctrine. Why should you get to choose it? My religious beliefs are as valid as yours.

ID is much deeper than the literal interpretation of the bible. I agree that the true debate between ID and Evolution is philosophical and thus should probably be introduced in a philosophy curriculum and not science.

Steve is right in pointing out that Evolution is flawed and honesty dictates that should at least be mentioned in the science classroom.

Very simply the disclaimer should be that " it is the belief of evolution scientists that all the complexity of the universe can be explained as a series of unrelated random acts ".

      ex,

If we're concerned about teaching everything that might offend someone's values then I guess there isn't much we can teach. How many possible explanations for the origin of life are there? As it stands there are I believe 3 schools of thought, none of which need be taught as any particular "religious doctrine."

I am not advocating teaching your kids how to be Baptists in public schools, but that as tom points out that our schools be honest with our kids. That necessitates pointing out the flaws in evolution (and there are many) and suggesting there are other possibilities. It doesn't neccesitate making good Baptists out of all our students...and besides they'd teach that wrong, too.

Absolutely not. I see no credible evidence for the idea of Intelligent Design or a Creator.
