Truman served all but 3 months of Franklin's last term as President . He became President in April 05.That means he served 3 months short of an 8 year term. He faced unprecedented and defining challenges in international affairs during the first years of his presidency ;just like Bush . Truman presided over the difficult transition from a war-time to a peace-time economy.Bush has precided over a transition from a peace time to war economy .
In his second term the public rejected most of his domestic agenda .His administration was hit with charges of corruption and being “soft on communism” and mismanaging the cold war . Very simular to what Bush hears today .oh yeah....Truman also got us into that 'quagmire' in Korea ...his popularity sunk .
Most historians today give him a pass in that he faced tough challenges both internationally and domestically and although he did make some political and policy blunders he is still regarded as one of the best we've had.

PS: I didn't know that Truman served so much of his term, however. I thought he took over right near the end.

the best thing is that the country has had some great ones ;some mediocre ones ;and some that suck . We've survived them all.
