Unlimited REsources Choux 02/20/05
Many people, including myself, think of America having unlimited resourses. Now, I think that is *not true* although I have no statistics, no results of projections.

Primarily, what about the healthcare industry. What a disaster!

One point. How long can we spend huge amounts of money on saving fetus' and newborn at the cost of millions of dollars EACH?

How long can we continue pouring millions of dollars into 'useless care' for people over say 75? Example:: replacing two knees on an 80 year old man. At lease one nation has guidelines in place; they have limited resources.

    Just to get me thinking.

Does America have limitless resources going forward????

How can we think about the morality of how we spend our money??

      Choux,

Emotional, yes. Over-emotional, no way. I don't joke at human life, so when one 'protests' that we "spend huge amounts of money on saving fetus' and newborn at the cost of millions of dollars EACH" and consider improving the quality of life for seniors as "useless care" I will properly address the issue of life, and not money, every time.

Nevertheless, no we don't have limitless resources...financially. But what is the value of life, Choux? What do you consider 'useless care'? My daughter is considered 100% disabled from full blown AIDS, and YOU are helping pay for her care. Is that ethical? Is her life worth it?

The preemie that was born at 2 pounds a few years back wouldn't stand a chance, but now does...at who knows the cost? Is the child worth it?

Grandpa is otherwise healthy but suffers tremendously from a bad hip...do we say the hell with Grandpa?

In California, Medical pays for certain elective cosmetic surgeries...now that I could consider 'useless care'. There are serious problems with healthcare in the US, but a progressive devaluing of human life is not the ethical solution.

      Steve

All I was hoping for was some rational discussion, I'm NOT in favor of killing grampa and the baby!!!

This is simply a discussion about who to manage limited resources($$$$) in the future.

A discussion is fine, but I'm not the one that implied the 'millions of dollars' saving babies and fixing grandpa's knees was 'useless care'. That's not rational in my book.

*Millions of dollars* saving ****ONE**** NEWBORN FETUS*. Quit misrepresenting what I said!

You can't think about *anything* without an excess of emotion and distortion. Dude, you are not really thinking. :):):)

      Clarification/Follow-up by Itsdb on 02/22/05 4:06 pm:
Dudette, I don't think one can have an 'excess of emotion' when it comes to human life. :)
