Inaugural Address |
Choux |
01/20/05 |
I watched the inauguration and the inaugural address a couple of hours ago, and I have to say that I was a little stunned.
My underatanding of one of the points was that America will support all revolutionary leaders of a country who overthrow dictatorships and replace them with Liberty. That America is going to shine the light of Liberty into all corners of the earth.
Did I get that point right?? |
Clarification/Follow-up by tomder55 on 01/21/05 11:36 am: Elliot ; Ukraine may be an example of the Bush Doctrine in action .That is unless you thought it a coincidence that everyone in the country suddenly had an orange wardrobe.Putin complained bitterly about American interference .Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said : "How can one explain that in recent times we have seen permanent commentaries from American officials on the progress of elections in different countries?"
The Nation reported that: US interference has been subtle and sophisticated, but the degree of American involvement appears to be more comprehensive than anything emanating from Moscow. And it has had minimal coverage in the largely partisan picture the Western media have painted of the Ukrainian crisis.
US funding has ranged from bankrolling opposition websites and radio stations to paying for the exit polls, which play a powerful role in mobilizing street protesters. It follows a template used four times in the past four years. The overthrow of Slobodan Milosevic in Belgrade in 2000 and of Eduard Shevardnadze in Georgia in 2003 were US successes. A similar effort to topple Alexander Lukashenko in Belarus in 2001 failed. So too did the campaign against Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe in 2002.
