State level elections ETWolverine 10/28/04
    Hi all,

We've been paying so much attention to the Presidential race, that I haven't been watching the Senate, House and Gubanatorial races (except NY). Has anyone been watching these? Which way is the wind blowing in your area?

    Elliot

Randy Neugebauer on the Rep side, Charlie Stenholm on the Dem side.

You're right. I could live with either one. Texas seems pretty safe.

      G-d bless the Dixie-crats.

If someone like Mike Bllomberg is a RINO (Republican in name only) then the majority of Dixie-crats are RIABN (Republicans in all but name).

(I assume that they are called Dixie-crats in Texas, even though Texas isn't part of the Civil-War South. Am I wrong?)

Sometimes. But mostly folks here vote for the "right" guy for them (us). Internally within Texas, Democrat or Republican doesn't mean as much as conservative vs liberal. Within the state, those things don't necessarily follow along stereotypical party lines AS MUCH as they do other places.

Oh, we've got our share of liberals--just walk the UT (or any other) campus and you'll see that. But I discount these folks, as they're not usually grown up yet and don't have to have responsibility and accountability yet, mommy and daddy will still rescue them. The only thing that troubles me is that they vote, and they vote without having the slightest freakin' clue about how the real world (as opposed to the fantasy land that some call "college") operates.

Grover Cleveland was mayor of N.Y. but he was also Govenor before he was elected. Lindsay made a primary run for the GOP but got nowhere(actually I think he switched parties to Dem. first)
