CBS to "Apologize" Chouxxx 09/15/04
shortly today for the forged documents presented on the nightly news re: Bush's National Guard Service. The appropriate response is for Dan Rather to resign(in disgrace).

    Do you agree?

      Clarification/Follow-up by ETWolverine on 09/15/04 11:13 am:
I'm trying to figure out why you think that ths stinks of a REPUBLICAN dirty trick?

The forged documents were obviously created to try to discredit BUSH, not Kerry.

In fact, for all the talk I have been hearing about these fake documents, NOBODY has tried to pin them on Kerry or his campaign. We think that Rather is stupid for having been suckered, and CBS is stupid for going along with it, but nobody I know is saying that Kerry is responsible in any way shape or form. So there is clearly no effort from the right to use this to discredit Kerry.

So why are you trying to call this a REPUBLICAN dirty trick?

      Elliot

      Clarification/Follow-up by Chouxxx on 09/15/04 11:21 am:
Because they were *terrible* forgeries!! Even I could see that they were bogus from seeing them on TV. Only the likes of Rather would have publicized them, only to be discredited shortly thereafter. :):):)

You are too young to know how Tricky Dickie(Nixon) and his slick operatives did dirty tricks on his opponents. All kinds of mischief in play.....

      Clarification/Follow-up by ETWolverine on 09/15/04 11:44 am:
Actually, Nixon is one of my favorite Presidents... not because I like his trickery or his antics, but because he was loony as a mad hatter, and great to read about.

One of the most paradoxical presidents in history, he ran as the candidate of American values, but got caught up in some of the worst scandals.

He hated China, but opened it up to the West.

He hated Israel and the Jews, but armed them against their Arab enemies.

Etc. etc., I could go on for hours. Nixon is always a fun read.

But I don't think that this case is at all like a Nixon dirty trick. It was simply a bad forgerie by someone who didn't understand forensic documentation analysis, or how a computer really works. An amateur job, not a put up job. Its not the document forger who caused all this to happen, but RATHER who caused it to happen by not properly authenticating the document. In order for this to be a Republican dirty trick, the document would have to be an OBVIOUS forgery, but good enough to fool Rather, and the person doing it would have to have known that Rather wouldn't properly check the documents, but would claim that he did. AND he had to assume that there would be enough people out on the internet with enough knowledge to break the story and shame Rather. That's a lot of "ifs" for any plan to rely on, don't you think?

Nah, this wasn't a Republican dirty trick. It was an amateurish attempt to discredit Bush that managed to sucker Dan Rather, but that was quickly figured out by everyone else on the planet.

      Clarification/Follow-up by Chouxxx on 09/15/04 5:50 pm:
      I agree, Nixon was fascinating.

Who knows? Maybe it was Nadar's people! lol...
