Republican Convention Chouxxx 08/24/04
I have heard interviews particularly on Hannity radio show with an anti-war activist, that there will be a lot of "action" in the streets in New York next week while the Republican convention is in town. No matter if the protestors are cordoned(sp)-off to special areas by the police. Aslo, many thousands of protestors representing all kinds of interest groups such as anti-war and environmental I guess, will join forces.

How do you think mayhem in the streets will effect the average voters this year, if it is televised. Do you think the American media will cover the protesters?

    Thanks,

      [regarding your comments]

Most demonstrations that have any size to them must get clearance through the local government, probably the mayors office with a permit of sorts and then the police are notified to select an area or route with organizers. I believe anything worth an issue should be permitted, however it needs to be done lawfully. The only exception is if we all wake up in something remotely close to living in nazi Germany, but that's not the case here...oranges and apples.

Now as for their embarrassment...I suppose in retrospect Jane Fonda probably doesn't share in her shame either. If the camera angles of the missing twin towers are not included in background shots, I'd hope locals would bring pictures of the lost loved-ones that perished on 9/11 holding them up for the cameras.

I have a brother that has now been included on three seperate occassions in the gulf war and Iraqi campaigns. I do not like seeing him put in harms way...but I do support the effort of Pres. Bush knowing it is right, IMHO for this country, and for the safety of future generations. Now as one of the few (maybe the only one) that actually has made it clear that I'm a registered Democrat, please understand that I don't agree with the Bush cabinets strategy necesarily, nor do I agree with some of the Presidents politics, as many know. But the war on terrorism cannot be compromised, I don't care how many Jane Fondas' show up to demonstrate during the Republican convention they are wrong. Any real Democrat with a backbone should not even consider being down on the streets of NYC demonstrating with the protesting forces of ignorance. In fact Sen Kerry voted for the war...so logically there should not be a one voting or registered Democrat demonstrating against the war.

      Mr. Yiddishamench Bobby:

People who protest have a Constitutional right to protest. All people who protest, don't protest the same thing, and all people who protest don't do so for the same reasons.

Jane Fonda should not feel shame for demonstrating her feelings. The particular feelings she had, may have been unpopular, but she had a right to demonstrate them.

And, that's what we're talking about - the right of the people to peaceably assemble - NOT what they're assembling to say!

      The distinction is crucial.

I also suggest that you make a couple other distinctions, too. I, like you, served my country. I support our men. I, personally, don't like the policy of putting them in harms way in an un-needed, and un-provoked war, when a greater danger looms.

I can, and have a right to, demonstrate my feelings toward Bush' policy, while strongly supporting our men in uniform.

      That distinction is also crucial.

You are entitled to your views whether or not they agree with mine. But, as a Democrat, you must support the right to dissent.

Or, maybe you should join Elliot in the Likud.

I do support legal protest demonstrations...but I don't have to support the ignorance on the issue. In fact, I accept their dissent and counter them with dissent of my own.

**Or, mabey you should join Elliot in the Likud**

Perhaps so, but Elliot and I are more like the brothers in the hockey movie "Slapshot."

Likud? Nah... they're too mamby-pamby liberal for me. I'm a Kach/Kahane party kind of guy.

Jews don't play hockey. Their mothers would never let them.

      Elliot-

I rented "Kill Bill Vol 2" and I enjoyed it as much as the first. The part when Darryl O'Hannah (sp?) finally met her doom was great. I also went and saw "Alien vs. Predator." It started a little slow, but was watchable. I appreciate that they finally tied-up all the loose ends on why the Aliens existed. I think they will come back with another one or attempt a tv series on the sci-fi channel later down the road.

      Tom-

Most certainly...there's always enough room in the penalty box for another brother.

If I had the youthful talent my mother would sign me up in a heartbeat, as long as she could be my agent:). Professional US players Jeff Halpern and Mathieu Schneider come to mind, and numerous ethnic Jews from the former Soviet Union. I used to manage a Foot Locker and one of my more enthusiastic employes was a Jewish girl that played in a womens league back East. Amazingly she was cute and still had all her teeth.
