Alright, Democrats. You wanted it, you got it. ETWolverine 08/24/04
Yesterday, Bush denounced the Swift Vet ads.

"I'm denouncing all the stuff being on TV of the 527s. That means that ad and every other ad," Bush said yesterday. "I think Sen. Kerry served admirably, and he ought to be - he ought to be proud of his record. But the question is, who is best to lead the country in the war on terror"

The Swift Vets, however, are vowing to continue to air the ads. Adm. Roy Hoffman said, "We have no intention of pulling our ads. We feel that we earned the right to be heard by our combat. It would make no difference if Kerry were a Republican, Democrat or Independent." When asked why the 264 Swift Vets dislike Kerry so much, Hoffman said: "When he came back, he told people that we were murderers who committed untold atrocities."

The more Kerry complains about the Swifties, the more chances Hoffman, O'Neil and others get to say things like that to the press.

Meanwhile Kerry has been using McCain's name without his permission in an attack ad against the Swift Vets, and that too is getting press time. McCain is NOT happy with Kerry, and is making that well-known to the press.

Now... all you Democrats that have called for Bush to denounce the Swift ads... you have your wish.

And it changes nothing at all.

The questions about Kerry's service are out there. People are questioning Kerry's voracity, his truthfulness, not just on the issue of his service but on EVERY issue. The Swift Ads are still being aired, and new ones are on the way. And now that Bush has given Kerry what he asked for in terms of denouncing the ads, Bush has taken away Kerry's biggest piece of short-term ammunition; the accusation that Bush supported the Swift ads. So the Swift ads are still airing, Kerry is still suffering from them, his truthfulness is in question, and Kerry has nothing to hit Bush back with on this issue. So what is Kerry going to do about it that won't make him look either desparate to bury the truth or a rabid attack dog?

Still think Bush is stupid? I think he's a brilliant political thinker.

Recently, after the ads came out, Bush was speaking to a group of people who questioned the Kerry ads, but he refused to comment, just ignored the questions (apparently not busy running the country at that moment). Couldn't Bush's silence indicate tacit approval of the ads? That was the impression I got.

(P.S. I'm a registered Republican - am on the fence regarding this election.)

      >>>Couldn't Bush's silence indicate tacit approval of the ads? <<<

Not after yesterday's comments it can't.

And since when is not answering a campaign question equated to "not running the ountry at the moment"? What does not answering a question about the Swifties have to do with running the country?

      Hello Elliot,

I'll put my response here since I'm not a Democrat. Bush is a good politician. It does make it easier, however, when your opponent is an undefined dufus.

But, my problem with Bush is not that he doesn't know how to win elections, but that he doesn't know how to run the country.

Oh yeah, the adds. It's easy to denounce them now. They did their damage. You can't unring a bell. Personally, I think it's sleazy, but all politicians act that way. ATON for pres.

      Excon,

Again I agree with the part about Kerry being an undefined dufus.

And I would also like to point out that Bush would not be able to fire this particular gun if Kerry hadn't given Bush the ammo.

Actaully Tom if I recall there was some pistol duels in our history as well. Perhaps we should let these two pace off back-to-back and fire away. Pres. Bush could say he has war-time duty experience and Sen Kerry can get another medal...then both would be happy. Just kidding of course. :)

Hey, if it could happen between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr over politics, there's no reason it couldn't happen between Kerry and Bush. After all Burr was the leader of the Democratic Party while Hamilton was the Republican party leader.

And there are other similarities between the events.

Kerry blames his political woes on the Swift Vets who are throing their support behind his political opponent. Burr, the candidate first for Vice President and then for Governor of NY, blamed his political woes on Hamilton's endorsement of his opponents.

Kerry is having issues with his military service being questioned. Burr's military record also came into question when he supported General Charles Lee, an officer that had been reprimanded By Washington for retreating from battle.

Some people consider Kerry a traitor for his post-war actions as one of the leaders of the anti-war movement in which he lied about attrocities committed by his fellow soldiers whcih never actually occured. Many considered Burr a traitor as well for his part in the Conway Cabal, a conspiracy to discredit George Washington, and also fo his part in trying to capitalize financially on a possible war with Spain.

Tom, that's what's so outrageous, ironic and even a bit amusing about Kerry's 'hero' strategy, the left has to bite their tongues while supporting their guy. Their having to endorse, vote for and give their money to someone running as a war guy is rather poetic...of course Kerry will be back to his old self in no time after the election.

Just thinking, I must be a registered Reublican because I get so many nice letters from George and Laura, Denny Hastert, Dich Cheney, and my favorite, a calendar for 2005 from Nancy Reagan depicting the Gipper at his best.

      Just sharing
