Kerry's acceptance Speech demie 07/30/04
Did Kerry's speech last night make anyone on this board change their mind as to who to vote for, who would be the better man? If so, why?
    Demie

Yes, Bush has blacks in his cabinet, which is wonderful to see, would like to see many representation from other cultures as well.
But, just like homes with central air, the home still has windows, doesn't mean one opens them to let the fresh air inside, because the same old stale air keeps rolling around.
So what good is it to have these individual's if your not going to approach their people or their interest in improving their people's life, just as Bush has older people in his cabinet, well, what's done for that sector of the field as well?
All that shines does not mean gold.

Bal, many promises are made during a campaign, the important thing is will they be truly fulfilled? Somehow once in office things are forgotten. Let's hope that the person that you vote for does do what he seems to be promising to do. I am not totally convinced that Kerry is truly clear on any issue but his childhood and his war record in Viet Nam and stem cell research. I would like to see the same things that you do, but will he be the man to do that?
      Demie

Chou -- I meant RNC, not DNC.

      Clarification/Follow-up by tomder55 on 07/31/04 4:18 am:
perhaps the minorities in the Bush cabinet have been picked for their competence and expertise instead of what seems to me to be the cynical charge of 'tokenism'. Where were the minorities in Clinton's ? Did his embrace of the criminal Al Sharpton by Kerry at the convention represent pandering /tokenism ? I thought one of the highlights of the convention was Obama's speech. I think he did a much better job at an attempt at national unity than the party bearer did . But I guess to some the only good minority is a liberal one.

      CeeBee: Did you mean RNC?

To clarify my reason for sitting on the fence. I have a real hatred for male Arab terrorist leaders and terrorists; viceral. I would vote for Bush only if I thought he would kill more of these enemies of civilizagtion. A very primitive response and I'm aware of it!

If there are any more horrible attacks like dirty bombs, I would absolutely vote for Bush. Etc.

      >>Bush and his gang have a few token blacks...<<

If a guy doesn't have ANY minorities on his staff, he's a bigot.

If he DOES have some, then they're merely tokens.

What will it take to make people understand that conservative does NOT equal bigotry and liberalism does NOT equal equality.

      CHOU,

      >>>Elliot, I guess you don't remember a remark that Bush made in the summer preceeding 911, but I do because it was so shocking. He answered a question about Israel's situation and his administration's plan, by saying, that is the business of those countries in the Middle East, they can settle their differences without our help!! paraphrase. It was a shocking moment for me. <<<

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO HEAR!!! THAT THE USA IS GOING TO STAY THE HELL OUT OF IT AND LET ISRAEL DEFEND ITSELF WITHOUT INTERFERANCE!!!

I have no idea why you see this as a BAD thing. It is exactly the sort of policy toward Israel that I am looking for. And if you understood Middle Eastern politics, you woul be looking for exactly that response too.

I like Bush regarding Israel not because he has a hands on policy toward Israel, but because he has such a HANDS OFF policy towards Israel.

      Elliot
