Vegas Casino Boots Linda Ronstadt Jul 19, 2:17 PM EST
The Associated Press
LAS VEGAS -- Singer Linda Ronstadt not only got booed, she got the boot after lauding filmmaker Michael Moore and his new movie, "Fahrenheit 9/11," during a performance at the Aladdin hotel-casino.
Before singing "Desperado" for an encore Saturday night, the 58-year-old rocker called Moore a "great American patriot" and "someone who is spreading the truth." She also encouraged everybody to see the documentary about President Bush.
Ronstadt's comments drew loud boos and some of the 4,500 people in attendance stormed out of the theater.
People also tore down concert posters and tossed cocktails into the air.
"It was a very ugly scene," Aladdin President Bill Timmins told The Associated Press. "She praised him and all of a sudden all bedlam broke loose."
Timmins, who is British and was watching the show, decided Ronstadt had to go — for good. Timmins said he didn't allow Ronstadt back in her luxury suite and she was escorted off the property.
Ronstadt's antics "spoiled a wonderful evening for our guests and we had to do something about it," Timmins said.
Timmins said it was the first time he sent a performer packing.
"As long as I'm here, she's not going to play," Timmins said.
Ronstadt had been booked to play the Aladdin for only one show.
Calls to Ronstadt's manager were not immediately returned.
In an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal before the show, Ronstadt said "I keep hoping that if I'm annoying enough to them, they won't hire me back."
Looks like she got her wish.

Clarification/Follow-up by SanchoPanza on 07/20/04 10:58 am: It' hardly an employee/boss relationship but no doubt there will have been a half assed f*ck clause in her contract, they have been prevelant in America since Jim Morrison went to New Haven. Clarification/Follow-up by kindj on 07/20/04 11:22 am: "It' hardly an employee/boss relationship"
Sure it was.
Most likely she booked with the hotel (implied, if not explicit, terms of agreement) upon condition of X number of ticket sales at X price. However, being an entertainer, we could possible argue that she doesn't actually "work" for the venue, but rather for those who pay to see her perform. Therefore, if she works for the fans, and the fans "fire" her, then it still stands. And no venue in the world will book someone that no one will pay to see, so it's kind of a double whammy on her.
But hey, no one put a gun to her head and forced her into this job. I'm sure she's angry, and I can understand that. However, maybe she's learned something the rest of us had to learn early on in life: In America, you are free to do just about anything you want, with reasonable exceptions. However, all actions have consequences, either positive or negative, depending on the action and how it's perceived by others. In this case, her action (speech) had a very negative consequence.
To paraphrase (or quote, I can't remember exactly what he said) Elliot: "Welcome to the real world, Linda."

Elliot
Clarification/Follow-up by SanchoPanza on 07/20/04 4:50 pm: It would have been a contractual relationship.
I guess her lawyers and his lawyers can argue the wording of the relevant sub section of the relevant paragraph and how it relates to the promotion of a movie and sharing her personal opinion of another entertainer whilst on stage.
Usually f*ck clauses insure the promoter against the performer doing anything that is likely to get the show stopped or the venue closed for a breach of it's licence regulations, such as profanity, nudity or excessive noise but to hold someone in breach of contract for telling people to watch a certain movie seems to be over extending your control.
