Bobby, I pieced it together, not USA Today. So, for clarification:
Algore:
"What a disgrace that their families have to hold bake sales to buy discarded Kevlar vests to stuff into the floorboards of the Humvees! Bake sales for body armor." Wednesday, May 26, 2004
John Kerry:
"As president, I will see to it that we don't have to have bake sales and bargain-basement sell-offs, yard sales by parents and buy on the Internet to supply the troops of the United States of America." Thursday, June 3, 2004
John Kerry:
"Here is the value that John Edwards and I will put in place. I'm proud to say that John joined me in voting against that $87 billion when we knew the policy had to be changed." — John Kerry, Remarks at "Women's Voices: A Luncheon with John Kerry," Boston, MA, 7/12/04
itsdb:
"Bake sales for body armor" is a myth, and our troops in Iraq have all had the newest armor since January. But if Kerry had his way with the vote, wouldn't that have made bake sales MORE likely?
Isn't it a bit outrageous to complain about mythical "bake sales" and 6 weeks later be "proud" to have voted against funding the troops?

Everyone who votes for war must be on the same page, meaning they have to understand the duration possibilities, a long or short commitment, if we start a draft, how much money is allocated intially, strategic air strikes, how many troops to be involved, will we build back their nation on our dollar, etc...
Steve, I don't want the US troops over in Iraq anymore. I fully supported blowing holes in their hillsides from Air Force strikes with only a very short term troop involvement and for that if I had a vote they would be well equiped to do so. If Kerry clearly understood the length of time our troops have been in this war effort and chose to vote against the larger 87 billion dollar package, then perhaps, his logic escapes me. I suspect with what we have spent already though, our country is already into debt for awhile. To my thinking the White House has treats the general public like mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed sh*t. I think those of us old enough to remember Vietnam are cautious about spending money outside the states. For me this is not a republican or democrat issue...just sharing my personal view.
Bobby
