Question Details Asked By Asked On
We never were and never will be absolutley nothing arcura 07/25/06
It has been said by one of our board’s prolific clarification posters that after death of the body there is “Nothing, absolutely nothing.”
I disagree by looking at it in this particular (but not intentionally limited) way.
We, each of us, are a part of the universe. Before birth and after death we were and still are part of that.
Before birth our makeup was destined from material, elemental, and energy sources in different forms outside of what we would eventually become.
During life we grew from taking in different forms of elements, material, and energy from the universe and forming them into our growing and aging selves.
After death of the body those elements, materials, and energies remain parts of the universe although in some case different forms.
Thus before birth we were different forms of parts and energies of the universe. After birth we became composed of different parts and energies of the universe.
After death we are still here only in a different form and energy.
That is looking at it from the basics of this universe’s physics. As a Christian I believe there is much more to that than those basics.
BUT either way after death we are still something, not nothing.
Our material, elemental, and energy of which we were made of goes on contributing to the existence and workings of the universe.
    Do you agree with that?
    Peace and kindness,
    Fred

Hello Fred,

You do believe in the Bible, do you not?
Notice what the Bible says about those that are dead and what happens to them:

First what is the definition of death?
Definition: The ceasing of all functions of life. After breathing, heartbeat, and brain activity stop, the life-force gradually ceases to function in body cells. Death is the opposite of life.

According to the Bible what does it say the condition of the dead is?

Eccl. 9:5: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.”

Ps. 146:4: “His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts

[“thoughts,” KJ, 145:4 in Dy; “all his thinking,” NE; “plans,” RS, NAB] do perish.”

John 11:11-14: “‘Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.’ . . . Jesus said to them outspokenly: ‘Lazarus has died.

(Psalm 13:3) Do look [upon me]; answer me, O Jehovah my God. Do make my eyes shine, that I may not fall asleep in death,

Now according to the Bible iIs there some part of man that lives on when the body dies?

Ezek. 18:4: “The soul [“soul,” RS, NE, KJ, Dy, Kx; “man,” JB; “person,” TEV] that is sinning—it itself will die.”

Isa. 53:12: “He poured out his soul [“soul,” RS, KJ, Dy; “life,” TEV; “himself,” JB, Kx, NAB] to the very death.”

Now also according to the Bible are the dead in any way able to help or to harm the living?

Eccl. 9:6: “Their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.”

Isa. 26:14: “They are dead; they will not live. Impotent in death, they will not rise up.”

Where are the dead?
Gen. 3:19: “In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return.”

Eccl. 9:10: “All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol [“the grave,” KJ, Kx; “the world of the dead,” TEV], the place to which you are going.”

(Psalm 146:3-4) Do not put YOUR trust in nobles, Nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs. 4 His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; In that day his thoughts do perish.

(Genesis 3:19) In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return.”

(Ecclesiastes 3:19-20) For there is an eventuality as respects the sons of mankind and an eventuality as respects the beast, and they have the same eventuality. As the one dies, so the other dies; and they all have but one spirit, so that there is no superiority of the man over the beast, for everything is vanity. 20 All are going to one place. They have all come to be from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust.

(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.

And there they will remain until Jesus come and resurrects them all. Until then we must not go beyond what is written so clearly for us to understand. Yes, the dead are as if asleep as Jesus told Lazarus and will remain in that sleeping state until at which time Jesus ressurects them.

This is what the Bible states, check it out Fred!

Take care,
Hope12
