      Clarification/Follow-up by Laura on 08/08/06 2:14 am:
Actually the Bible does mention other people east of Eden in the land of Nod..Where did they come from? Adam and Eve had to be awfully busy to produce so many children so fast.. Since it seems from the wording that Cain took a wife from Nod and she bore children and their children married (other people)and bore children.

Genesis 15 But the LORD said to him, "Not so [e] ; if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. 16 So Cain went out from the LORD's presence and lived in the land of Nod, [f] east of Eden.

17 Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael was the father of Methushael, and Methushael was the father of Lamech.

Adam and Eve may have been the "first".. Who's to say that God didn't create more humans knowing that Adam and Eve would have a hard time populating the earth on their own? If the Bible contained every single thing that God did in it, there would not be enough room to contain it all.

Why did God forgive King David for having his wife's husband killed in battle??.. Though he paid a dear price for it.

Job practically cursed God and yet God gave him back everything he had lost and more.

There are tons of other examples in the Bible of these things.

I think it has something to do with mercy and grace.
