    Hello nannystaters:

As many of you know, I participate in on-line poker. As of June 7, my poker playing activities will become a felony. The head of the state gambling commission, however, said that it is unlikely that individual gamblers will be targeted. Yeah right!

    (1) Do you believe the head gambling cop? (2) Why would they spend the time to make gambling a felony if they had no intention of enforcing it? (3) Isn't making law that they don't enforce and have no intention of enforcing, a problem? (4) Should I quit? (5) Do you want your cops spending time doing this kind of enforcement?

    excon

PS> NO, I ain't gonna quit. And YES, because of that decision, I know the Wolverine thinks I should go to jail. (6) Do you?

Hello Old felonious excon,

(2) I don't think they would

(3) Yes, that is a problem

(4) No, don't quit because of some stupid law.

(5) No, I don't want cops spending time doing that kind of enforcement! I want them going after the bad guys.

(6) No, I don't think you should go to jail.

You probably know I don't gamble, at least not what most people think when they hear that word: gamble. I do break stupid laws though and 'gamble' on not getting caught.

I was baby sitting, this weekend, for my grandchildren who happen to be (through no fault of their own) Pit Bull dogs. The city I live in is rather fickle in its dog laws.... one week Pit Bulls are legal, one week they aren't. This weekend happened to be a week they are not legal. In fact on the days they are illegal, they are so very illegal, last year 900 Pit Bull dogs were confiscated by the dog warden. 33 of them had been involved in a dog bite situation.

Did I pay attention to the law? Sure, I made note of it in my head. Did I let it stop me from taking the dogs out for a ride? Nope, I did it anyway. They love to go for car rides :). I broke the law. I was extra bad about it too since I had more than one with me.

I might have even gone over the speed limit a little.

I guess you can call that gambling.

I don't like thinking of myself as a criminal, but sometimes I disregard stupid laws.
