Every time you think you've seen everything, something comes along to prove you wrong.

What on earth could possess Dick Durbin to swan-dive so far off the deep end?

    See:

Power Line and the articles linked from here.

    Hugh Hewitt and linked items.

And as background for all of this, read the extended essay here. This puts the whole Gitmo discussion into vivid perspective.

Where are the voices of sanity in the Democratic party? Or, better still, the voices of outrage? Has Bush fever so overtaken the Democrats that they are willing to destroy the United States in order to "prove" themselves correct?

      Hello again, voicedude:

There is too much bull on both sides. All it does is obfuscate the real issue.

Yes, we are involved in aggressive questioning tactics. The left yells gulag, and the right brings out a beautiful plate of fruit that we serve in Gitmo.

Neither of these positions answers the question of exactly what it is that we are doing to these people and should we continue to do it.

Jerkoff, Bill O'Riley says that we are saving 1,000's of American lives by torturing these people. Jerkoff Durbin says we run a gulag.

The problem I have is that there is a gigantic difference "aggressive questioning tactics" and pulling people's fingernails out with pliers. That is the equation I reject. The very use of the word "torture," based on what actually happens, robs the word of any meaning.

Hello voicedude:

We are who we are, because of who we are. Not because of who they are. And, there is only ONE reason why we should stay the way we are - because it is right.

If one wanted to find reasons which would allow us to misbehave, one wouldn't have to look too far. This is the reason, amongst others, that your guy gives:

>>>It is not because they are opposing us. It is – to put it as bluntly as possible – because they are cheating – cheating in a way that none of the above ever did.<<<

But, those reasons, and all the rest you can come up with, aren't enough, and never will be enough, for me to suggest that America should change its character, and be more like them.

Yes, they cheated. So, now we can too??? No, no we can't.
