Noise Pollution ?? ROLCAM 05/25/05
What rights do residents living next to main roads have, to reduce or if possible eliminate noise pollution caused by light and heavy vehicles? Is the government obliged to install noise absorbers along the roads?

A noise ordinance is first required. We have a noise ordinance but they don't enforce it...at least not where it should be enforced.

A couple of years ago my daughter had a "preacher" living upstairs that called the police on her numerous times. I asked the police what was allowed, bought her a decibel meter, and in spite of staying within her rights she was harassed a number of times since, until she finally moved out.

Meanwhile, cars drive down the road regularly with the bass pounding so loud it shakes my windows and neighbors wax their cars with the doors open and $10,000 stereos blasting away, which I can tolerate for a while...unless it's Tejano music. An hour of accordions and trumpets to the same beat makes the interstate next door sound like sweet music.
