Bush Supports Kofi Annan Choux 12/10/04
A huge scandal, and Bush is supporting Kofi Annan?? What if Kerry were president and Kerry supported Kofi???? Is this just a good ole boys club mentality? I'm disgusted. What's going on?

I am bewildered. Bush has cut people like Sen. Norm Coleman right off at the knees. This has State Department squishy fingerprints all over it.

Ultimately it may not matter, however. The U.N. as an institution is imploding on its own. Its credibility is already at a very low ebb, and with the oil-for-food scandal on top of everything else, I would say that it faces a crisis as serious as any since 1945. No instutition operating with such a refusal to investigate corruption can have any real influence.

I would certainly be interested in an explanation for this Bush administration action. The only thing that would justify it, in my view, is if there was a back-room deal that in exchange for this, Annan would, in fact, step down in the near future.
