It's been hard day/night. Camomile_Tea 12/25/07
"We went to do a job, and we'd worked all day and we
happened to work all night. I came up still thinking it was day I suppose, and I said, 'It's been a hard day...' and I looked around and saw it was dark so I said, '...night!' So we came to 'A Hard Day's Night.'"

    I don't understand this...
Does it sound wired if you said "it's been a hard day" at the night? (Do you need to say it's been a hard night when it was dark outside even thought it's been a hard day?)

Aside from the context of the Beatles song, you can say either "it has been a hard day" or "it has been a hard night", whichever is appropriate for the period of time that was worked. If the period exceeds 12-16 hours, and if there's no particular expectation that the period should be considered a "night", you would normally prefer to use the "day" form, meaning something more like a 24-hour day rather than the period of daylight.
