Question on Photo Compressors for Resizing: headranger 02/14/05
I am always trying to resize my digital pics for various reasons. I know there are applications that are for sale letting you do this...I believe they are called Photo Compressors and some allow you to resize using a set (2) of sliders.
My Question: Does anyone know of a simple and FREE software application that one might avail themselves ?
    Appreciate any comments/Suggestions,

    George in SF

      George,
Not sure what prompted the clarification, but I am not enamored of AskMeHelpDesk. I hope you don't mind my giving my opinion. The main issue is the site is very lightly trafficked. The quality of the help has been good as far as I've seen, but no better or worse than here.

There are many structural disadvantages as its harder to follow threads or see new questions. Personally I think this is the best construcuted Q&A site I've seen.

But the best way for you to judge would be to check out the site.

      George,
I'm sorry that Fred is putting you in the middle of this. But I cannot let Fred post his lies and false accusations without answering them.

It is totally false that I have to "have my fingers in everything". There are questions and categories that I have never posted in. Fred has this habit of making blanket, general accusations that just aren't supported by facts. That he makes such obviously false statements shows his disregard for the truth.

The site guidelines prohibit advertising any other site. While its one thing to answer a question with a reference to another site, its another thing to promote a competing site out of the blue. That Fred is willing to ignore and violate these guidelines shows his lack of ethics.

I responded to his clarification because, a) I disagree with his estimation of the quality of that site and b) I felt that it was a breach of ethics to recommend it. I did not attack Fred in doing so, I simply offered a dissenting opinion for others to consider. Fred's response was to launch a false and malicious attack against me. An attack that also violates this site's guidelines.

I suggest anyone reading this exchange to think about what this says about Fred. At the least it shows a lack of ethics. It makes Fred the one doing the harassing, not I. I'm just sick and tired of Fred's harassing me with false and malicious statements, his acts of plagiarism and his other garbage.

Again, George, I apologize that your question was dragged into this, but this is where he posted his garbage so this is where I have to answer it.

As usual, Fred, you refuse to deal with the facts. The fact that you have ben caught plagiarizing, the fact that you continue to maliciously post false information about me. The fact that you have violated the rules of this site over and over.

George,
Can you be more specific about what you mean by resize?

A compressor implies changing the FILE SIZE of a digital image file. Not changing the display or print size. There are a number of ways one can reduce file size.

If you are referring to picture size (i.e. taking a 2"x3" photo and blowing it up to 8"x10" or vice versa) then any image editor can handle that task. You probably got some with the camera or other hardware. A great freeware producxt is IrFanView.

If you can be more specific about what you are trying to do I may have other suggestions.

HTH
