Michael Jackson question jpollardsmith 01/22/04
    Hi,

I've seen pictures of Michael Jackson when he was a child and his skin was a normal African brown. But now it's pretty much white.

Would you know why his skin color changed so dramatically?

I was thinking it might be because of a disease or plastic surgery.

    Thanks,

    John

Hello: This is a very interesting subject, because my very own son has this disorder. I believe, because there is no true negro race, and often times we see this discoloration which will take over ones skin, causing them to turn from brown to patches or completely white(almost like an albino), however my son who to me is very handsome, has this disorder around his mouth and it fades a little to normal tone, but he is not very dark, more light coffee cream, however it is apparent, and definately on his hands, elbows. One of my cousin's sons has it on his private areas and is 20yrs. old and afraid a girl if he'd get intimate won't understand, so he is still a virgin, and dates very little.
Anyway, what Michael Jackson claims to have is this disorder called: Vitiligo, it is a autoimimune skin disorder, where you will see loss of pigment in the skin.

However, Michael has had some surgery done to his facial area, his nose was narrowed and according to an interview I seen, Michael said, the nose was narrowed for him to be able to hit the high notes when he sings, so his fans can hear the same old Michael, however, some of the nose surgery has gone bad, just like we hear with many facial plastic surgeries and often times some of the I believe cartilage or some form of the structure settles or falls and this is why his nose looks some what distorted.
He claims to of had no other types of facial surgery, but uses make up to achieve the look he has today, specially to blend his patchy skin discoloration, and he always has to be protected from the sun, due to the pain a sun burn would cause.

Hopefully, this helps. If there is anything further that I may assist you with, please let me know.
Respectfully,
