I have a question about toothaches. I have a toothache in an upper molar, the second one from the end(I have no wisdom teeth). For about two weeks now. I'm in my sixties and have semi-uncontrolled diabetes. That is the part that worries me. I want to know how long it "usually" takes before a tooth goes into abscess...from a dull ache to infection. It will take me awhile to "organize" a visit to the dentist. Thanks. Also, looking for reassurance. :) |

Hi, again, Not being a dentist, I can only answer this question as the other one; from experience. The other expert said infection could start now....I completely agree with that...been there, done that. Had to take antibiotics for a week to get rid of the infection before the tooth could be worked on by a dentist. Problem with infection is that the tooth can't be deadened while infected and/or swollen!! Please get an appointment as soon as possible. Meantime, try using a toothpaste with Synsodine in it. It is a "deadner" used for bad gums, tooth nerves, etc. It comes in a tube with that name on it. You can also get Crest toothpaste with Max. Synsodine in it. You can "feel" the effects using it usually after about a week. I wish you the best, fredg |
