Hello,
How are you? I'm 41 years old and a former smoker, and I'd like to whiten my grey-ish white teeth. Also I have a fixed income so I can't spend a great deal of money.
In my local (Phoenix, AZ) Yellow pages, some of the dentist advertisements have terms that I'm not familiar with. Specifically they are:
Zoom 1-visit whitening,
1-hour bleaching,
and lasar whitening
Could you briefly tell me what these procedures are and which one might be the best for me?
Thank you,
John |

Dear John,
Teeth whitening are usually done in one of two ways: in-office or take home whitening, and utlising both systems would give the best result.
Most in-office whitening involve application of a bleaching gel on the teeth and using some form of 'light' to activate the gel and hasten the reaction.
1 hour breaching is non-specific as most in-office systems would take approximately one hour (including preparative procedures).
Laser whitening is using laser to activate the bleaching gel and Zoom is utilising ultra-violet light. Other systems may use white light or even chemical activation.
I am quite againse Zoom as uv light is under the ionising radiation range and there is not enough study on effect of prolonged exposure of strong ionizing radiation on the nerve or other vital tissues inside the tooth.
Unfortunately, I have not seen your teeth and therefore cannot say which system will be best for you.
