Selected vs Pre-selected BeDelicious 07/16/05
Hi everybody. I'm new to this board. I was wondering what the difference between "selected" and "pre-selected" was? Could somebody explain it to me using some examples? Thanks very much.

Though Schoolmarm is correct in her distinction (regarding current usage), I have never seen any necessity for "pre-selected." "Selected" is usually sufficient, with the context generally providing the specific information about when and under what circumstances the selection was made. The same applies to "pre-approved." All those messages I get saying that I've been "pre-approved" for a credit card mean that they're willing to issue one to me. Why can't they just say that I have been "approved"?
