Ever since I got into cycling in high school, I have had this problem: while walking, when I lift my heel off the ground with the ball of my foot still on the ground, I would feel a sharp pain, that almost feels like a strong electric shock, inside the arch of my foot. I've had the problem in both feet. Usually the pain is the worst after a bike ride. I'm thinking that there might be a slight tear in the cartilage there, and when my foot is going through that motion, it stretches the cartilage and pulls on the tear. Is there possibly something wrong with my riding form that might cause something like that?
Many thanks,

The only thing I can think of is that you are contacting the petal too far towards the toes rather than more towards the middle of the foot. First let the injury heal completely by going to a physical trainer or a doctor to make sure there is not more serious damage. You may need an MRI or at least a close examination.
Next time you cycle, try contacting the petal more near the arch of your foot, which will feel very different from what you are used to, but at least it will reduce chances of further injury. New cycling shoes can also help, for more support.
Hope this helps. |
