Is $450 expensive for a chess set? How expensive can they get?
I saw a beautiful blue and white chess set being sold at chessforum.com with an alabaster board and stone pieces made in Italy at a price of $450. I think it is the most expensive set being sold on that site. It's such a beautiful set that I'm willing to spend that much for it.
Many thanks,
C.L. |
Clarification/Follow-up by Ccl471 on 11/27/03 6:32 pm: Hi Chessmaster:
Thanks for answering my question. I saw a complete set of chessmen, just the pieces, no board, online for $6320.
Are there any sets more expensive than that?
Thanks again,
C.L.

Ok, as far as prices for chess sets/pieces go, you have to understand that these objects are just like anything else we can buy, from cars, to electronics, to art. You may get "top of the line" but the fact is, there is always something better somewhere, somewhere we may not be able to ever find. Therefore, that is not a valid question. Even if there were the "most expensive" anything, then someone will come along in a flash and make something even more expensive. I would be sure there are chess sets that go into the millions if you looked hard enough. Vyer easy to make it yourself if you had enough diamonds and platinum to make the pieces and board with.
As far as normal retail for sale, you could do a net search for the classiest chess sites or do a search on ebay or somewhere like mysimon.com. |
