A player passes to another player who goes in for a layup...shooter is fouled and makes his freethrows...OK does the player who passed the ball get an assist?

No they do not, but I always argue with other bball fans that they should.... hopefully someday they will change the rules, but then again that would alter all assist records, so.... its a dilemma.
