No Kitty Hawk this year I guess Fr_Chuck 12/17/03
I was listening to the news and it said that becuase of bad weather, the re-inactment at Kitty Hawk of the first powered flight would not happen today. It sounded like they would wait to next year.

I wonder why not just wait for a better day this or next week.

Fr Chuck, this was to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers' first flight at the same time that they did it, at 10:30 AM. There were 2 additional attempts later in the day. You can see this online at CNN.com under "travel" news.

Why not wait for a better day, or next week? The moment will have passed. Similarly, why do you celebrate your birthday, your anniversary on that day? (What do you think your wife's reaction would be to put off celebrating your wedding anniversary for a week or so, due to no wind or rain?) You probably are going to celebrate Christmas on December 25, not a week later, right? The crowd that gathered to see the recreation of the historic flight cannot wait forever. It was a moment in time that shall never come again. There will probably be a 200th anniversary, maybe a 150th, but, never again, a 100th.

Regards, Dan
