Fuel tank float? grayeagle_50 02/28/04
Our gas gauage keeps going up and down as well as not going above half a tank when full...Sometimes the movement makes it go way below empty even when full and goes back and forth! We did have someone steal gas from it three weeks ago and that's when the trouble began! The car is a 2000 Kia .Any help will be a blessing....Jeff

Jeff, before you take it to a garage, try banging with YOUR HAND on the side of the tank. The float may have been pushed up by the thief's siphon hose into an inverted position, and the banging MAY restore it to the proper position. Burn down the gas below half a tank before trying this. If you have to take it to the dealer, burn the gas down as low as possible, as they will need to drain out most of it in order to remove the tank.

Good luck.
Regards, Dan
