Hello,

You may check this web:

http://209.85.135.104/search?q=cache:niCfGohggMYJ:www.gainsboroughproducts.com/cleaning_an_old_oil_painting.pdf+*best+way+to+clean+an+older+oil+painting+on+poster+board*&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=4

although, if I were you, and you are talking about a valuable oil painting I would contact a professional artist or an art gallery, for it takes a lot of care to do it without harming the painting.

The persons who di this sort of job in museums or art galleries are truly specialists and it is a job that depending on the age of the painting it may take from days to months to properly do it.
