Hi
Whats the difference in positioning the sight close to the bow or further from it. Talking about recurve archery by the way.
Thanks |

Hello My Friend,
Whether you are shooting a recurve or compound bow really does not enter the equation.
The advantage of the bow sight being placed farther away from your face,(on the opposite side of the bow,) greatly aids in a finer aiming point.
Many archers using bow sights prefer to mount them closer to the target, so to speak, because it makes the sight pin aiming "dots" appear smaller and more precise for aiming.
Two of the disadvantages of this to an older archer, sometimes this makes the sight pins somewhat difficult to see and also, the closer to the target the pins are, the more arm movement is magnified.
Another consideration is with the sight mounted in front of the bow, it is also more likely to be in contact with brush, limbs, etc. while you are in the aimimg process.
Personally, I prefer to use an extended sight with the bright fiber optics that are much easier to see in dim light. This makes sight pins easier to see in all hunting and target situations and with the pins closer to the target, I have a much better, finer aiming point.
Whether you mount the bowsight closer to you, or closer to your target is a personal preference, much like everything else in archery.
I would suggest you possibly tape the sight to your bow and try it out from both mounting locations and determine which you prefer, you can then attach the bowsight wherever it works best for you.
I certainly hope I have assisted you and if I can be of further help with information and suggestions.... feel free to contact me again.
