Opening Online Transaction History JeffreyBryson 10/22/03
    Hi.

I assume because of your experience that you'll easily know the answer to my question. I downloaded this history file from my bank's site, and now I want to view it (add it to) in Quicken. When I open the downloaded file it wont open because Windows doesn't know which program to use. Naturally. The question is: precisely which file should I click in the Quicken folder when navigating to the correct program to open this download.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jeffrey

You think the QIFs are easy? The QFXs are even better. They go thru and compare to your existing register and match transactions. The great part is that it can automate the categorization of matched transactions.

      Nice.

What version of Quicken is necessary to do such cool things? :)

      Clarification/Follow-up by ScottGem on 10/24/03 1:17 pm:
I believe Quicken 2000 or later supports QFX files. Many banks and credit card companies (Amex and Discover definitely do) support the QFX format for reconciling stmts thru Quicken.

      Hope this helps,

Barb is correct assuming its a QIF or QFX file. I have a suspicion it isn't because when you install Quicken it creates associations for those file types so you shouldn't get the 'what program to use' dialog.

So you need to identify EXACTLY what the file name is, at least the 3 character extension. With that info we may be able to suggest how to get it into Quicken.

However, its possible, the format is proprietary and you would need to get info on how to use that file from your bank. One more suggestion is to go back to the bank's site and check the download page. See if they a) offer different formats for the download that are compatible with Quicken or Money (or other program) or b) explain what the format is and provide instructions on how to use them.

Hope this helps,
