Secular Humanism
I am a 61 year old retired woman who has been fortunate to have known many different interesting and intelligent individuals throughout my life. I have learned much from my friends and acquaintances as well as from my studies at Northwestern University which I attended as an Illinois State Scholar, both honorary and financial, and on a private financial scholarship. I majored in Psychology and minored in Biology.
Throughout my life I was interested in many different topics including animals, biology, psychology, religion, and scientific discoveries to name a few.
My hobbies were golf and tennis, as well as speedwalking and cycling; crochet and knitting, reading and bridge, crossword puzzles and other stuff like laughing and having fun! I struggled with major mental illness since childhood, but persevered and made an interesting and varied life for myself.
Curently, I am an expert in Cat Behavior and Training, Golf, Emotional Wellness(Challange of living with Mental Illness), Depression, Christianity, Cooking(Inexpensively)and Bridge.
My mother honored me by saying that anyone who had me for a friend was very lucky.
Currently, my mental and physical health leaves lots to be desired, and I don't leave my home.
I believe that viewing the world throught the gauze of religion, romanticism, superstition and the supernatural is the main hurdle humanity must overcome in the coming millennium so we may solve the problems of War, starvation, overpopulation, pollution and barbarism.
I don't believe in the supernatural or an afterlife or anything else that is non-sense.
A SECULAR HUMANIST...
"Believes in the here and now and in developing our creative talents to the fullest. The cultivation of moral excellence. Believes that scientific discovery and technology can contribute to the betterment of human life. In open and pluralistic society and that democracy is the best guarantee of protecting human rights from authoritarian elites and repressive majorities. In common moral decencies; altruism, honesty, truthfulmesss and responsibility.
We believe in OPTIMISM rather than pessimism. HOPE rather than despair. LEARNING in the place of dogma. TRUTH instead of ignorance. JOY rather than guilt or sin. TOLERANCE in the place of fear. LOVE instead of hatred. COMPASSION over selfishness. BEAUTY instead of ugliness. AND, REASON rather than blind faith or irrationality".
