Question/Subject:
    Lower ball flight
There are many causes for a ball flight that gets too high. There are many cures as well. Here is a list of the causes and cures and at least one of them should help you with lowering your ball flight, and possibly someday, you will get so good that you will be able to hit screaming low stingers like Tiger does.

Cause 1 - Casting/flipping the wrist up - This causes the ball to be hit on an upswing, instead of hitting on the decending blow. All clubs should be hit with a decending blow unless you are hitting driver off the tee, or possibly a 3 wood off the tee.

Solution 1 - Make sure you hold your lag longer (see my FAQ on lag) and keep the hands ahead of the ball, and make sure you hit the ground after the ball, which guarantees a decending blow.

Cause 2 - Clubface is open at impact, causing fades and higher trajectory.

Solution 2 - Rotate the forearms more aggressively at impact, making sure the right forearm rolls over the left, or in other words, make sure at impact the left hand rotates hard to face the ground rather than the sky. This will produce some draw and deloft the club more, keeping the flight down.

Cause 3 - Angle of attack to steep - For taller player and people whose swing plane is more verticle, the ball flight will naturally fly higher because of the aggressive decending blow if hit correctly.

Solution 3 - Flatter swing planes keep the ball lower. Shallow out your swing plane and swing smoother to impart less spin and prevent from popping the ball up.

    Cause 4 - Ball position

Solution 4 - Place the ball slightly back in your stance, but not so far back that you are chopping down on the ball. So for a SW, place about an inch or less behind center, PW-9I about center, etc.. with driver ball position's staying inside the left foot.

Cause 5 - Swing speed and angle into the ball - Very high speeds at a steep angle makes the ball take off high.

Solution 5 - Try some more 3/4 swing, instead of full swings with all clubs. The follow through should extend more forward towards the target than all the way around the shoulders. Think of it more as a shot in between a pitch and full shot. Your distance will go down about one club, but the ball will definitely travel lower. Into the wind, this is the play because you will lose more than that distance if you sky it high.

If these do not work for you, please give me more specifics on what happened when you tried each of these solutions and why you think your flight is still too high. Good luck.
