Question/Subject:
Why does my dog do this?
Hello, my 8 month old puppy (Shih-tuz/yorkie) pees out of excitment all the time. When I get home from school, she'll start jumping a peeing right in front of me, or when my parents come home from the grocery store, or when friends come over, etc. My parents are REALLY getting annoyed with this behaviour. Why does she do this and how can I stop it.
Also, she started that..maybe a month after we got her, then she stopped, then she started peeing again, then she stopped, but now she is doing it like crazy. To be honest, its really getting on my nerves too.
First take her for a checkup with her vet, then re-read Labman and Captainoutrageous.
The answer is somewhere in there.
Kidney and bladder problems can be the culprit, or could be making it worse.
even stopping and starting could still mean a bladder or kidney problem.
You have a mixture of two of the breeds most prone to this behavior.
she cannot help it. she is excited because she is happy to see you, and she may be afraid staying alone. she may think each time she is left alone, that you are not coming back.
Could you take her out to the yard as soon as you open the door? she would do her peeing outside then.
This is not something that is going to go on for all her life. she is still a young puppy, and may have less control over her bladder.
Mainly, don't scold or punish. this will make it worse.
If it is a medical problem, medications will take care of it. If not, one of the suggestions from Labman or Captain will do the trick.
Patience is needed (like with a child that is wetting the bed)
I usually agree with voiceguy, but I respectifully disagree this time. cockers are a little antsy too, but not as prone to nervous behavior as a Yorkie of a Shih-Tsu.
I think he lucked out with his cocker.
I would let her at least on the porch, so the pee is not on the floor, and you can control her to see she doesn't go in the street, or otherwise be harmed.
    Be patient and loving.
8 months old is still a baby. she needs time, patience, understanding, and a physical checkup.
Lots of luck. Persevere and you will have a lovely little girl for a friend, and family member.
